American Cigar Box Guitar Association

The American Cigar Box Guitar Association was established in 2017 to promote the creation and appreciation of homemade American instruments. We represent American builders who use their unique craftsmanship to create instruments from recycled parts. The Cigar Box Guitar dates back to the Civil War. Folks could not afford a guitar, so they used old wooden cigar boxes, old broomsticks stick and some wire to create a guitar.

The instrument is often credited with the unique sound of American Blues, Country, and folk music.
